About
FIISC coordinates and supports research, training and innovation in health within the Canary Islands’ Public Health Service.
Our mission is to promote excellence in biomedical and health research, innovation and knowledge transfer to the healthcare system and society. We facilitate the management and implementation of competitive research projects, clinical trials, scientific infrastructure and training programmes.
Our research ecosystem brings together around 90 research groups, >400 active clinical trials and >100 competitive research projects, including European-funded initiatives.
A strong public healthcare network underpins our research activities, encompassing 30,000 healthcare professionals, 14 hospitals (including five university hospitals), 266 primary care centres and 76 out-of-hospital emergency resources across the Canary Islands.
Our five main research areas cover cardiorespiratory and infectious diseases and immunity; renal and metabolic diseases and physical function; health technology assessment, primary care, care research and public health; personalised medicine, oncology and genetics; and neuroscience and frailty.
FIISC welcomes opportunities to join European consortia, contribute to collaborative research and innovation projects, and build international partnerships.
