About

The IRCCS Eugenio Medea, the research division of the Associazione La Nostra Famiglia, was recognized as a Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare (IRCCS) in 1985 and is dedicated to research, treatment, and training in the field of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders of developmental age.

The Institute operates with the aim of creating synergy between scientific research and hospitalization and care activities that promote the dignity and overall quality of life of its young patients, through specific rehabilitation interventions for people with disabilities, especially during developmental age.

In its hospital activities, the Institute pursues an organization based on a new vision of the hospital, different from the traditional one born from the treatment of acute illness: the delicate phase of developmental age, which often involves impairment of the physical, psychological, and social development of the child, requires alongside healthcare intervention a series of multidisciplinary interventions that concretize the comprehensive care of the patient, including psycho-educational and social interventions.

In its scientific activity, the Institute is always guided by a strong ethical commitment: rehabilitation research today must be founded and led primarily by attention and respect for the patient’s needs; it is therefore research that does not pursue popularity at all costs and does not take shortcuts to achieve easier and immediate results, but knows how to address the real questions that disability poses on the various fronts of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation without neglecting the suffering situation and the related existential problems.

The IRCCS Eugenio Medea is characterized by:

  • the largest case series in Italy in the field of neurological and neuropsychiatric disabilities during developmental age, thanks to the network of rehabilitation centers of La Nostra Famiglia;

  • the broad scope of clinical-scientific action, from genetics and neuroimaging to social aspects related to rehabilitation;

  • the multidisciplinary approach of specialists and professional operators;

  • the high level of advanced technological equipment in diagnostics and therapy;

  • the elevated standard of inpatient and care environments;

  • the close connection among the different IRCCS locations both in terms of management and organizational structures and regarding clinical guidelines and protocols concerning the reference pathologies.
