About

AETSA provides health technology assessment (HTA) expertise to support evidence-informed decisions on the adoption, use and implementation of healthcare technologies. Its contribution covers medicines, medical devices, diagnostic tests, clinical interventions and digital health solutions, including artificial intelligence.

AETSA can conduct systematic reviews, critical appraisals and evidence syntheses to assess clinical effectiveness, safety and comparative added value. This work helps establish the strength and applicability of available evidence, identify research gaps and determine which uncertainties need to be addressed before a technology can be adopted or used more widely.

Economic evaluation is another area of contribution. Through cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, AETSA can assess value for money and estimate the financial consequences of introducing a technology into a healthcare system. These analyses can inform resource allocation, compare alternative care pathways and explore how results vary across patient groups and implementation scenarios.

AETSA can also provide methodological support for evidence generation, including the formulation of evaluation questions, selection of relevant comparators and outcomes, and assessment of study designs. In collaborative research projects, it can help align clinical development and validation activities with the evidence needs of healthcare decision-makers.

For digital health and AI technologies, AETSA can contribute to evaluating clinical utility, generalisability, economic implications and implementation requirements. Its added value lies in connecting technological performance with patient-relevant outcomes and healthcare system needs, helping project partners develop evidence that is useful for decisions on adoption and implementation.
