About
The Maternal and Fetal Metabolic Research Group at the Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI), Spain, is interested in joining Horizon Europe consortia as a research partner.
Our research focuses on fetal programming and the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD), with particular interest in prenatal environmental exposures and their effects on childhood obesity and cardiometabolic health. We also investigate pediatric endocrinology, including childhood obesity, growth and pubertal disorders, and polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS, formerly PCOS).
Our main expertise and research capacities include:
-
Design and implementation of clinical and longitudinal cohort studies, including mother–father–child cohorts.
-
Clinical, anthropometric and metabolic phenotyping in pediatric populations.
-
Collection and management of biological samples, including blood, urine and placental tissue.
-
Epigenetic research, particularly DNA methylation and miRNAs.
-
Targeted DNA methylation analysis and biomarker validation using laboratory-based pyrosequencing.
-
Experience in molecular biomarker research and collaborations involving metabolomics.
We are open to joining collaborative projects involving clinical research, cohort studies, molecular epidemiology, biomarker identification and validation, and investigations into the early-life determinants of health and disease.
