Khyber Medical University

KMU has developed a growing research ecosystem supported by its Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), which facilitates research development, external funding, international collaborations, capacity building, and translation of scientific discoveries into healthcare solutions. The university promotes interdisciplinary research across biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, public health, and health innovation, with increasing engagement in collaborative research projects and global partnerships.

With access to diverse patient populations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and surrounding regions, KMU provides a valuable platform for clinical and translational research, particularly in areas relevant to low- and middle-income countries. The university has expertise in population-based studies, clinical research, infectious diseases, nutrition, maternal and child health, and emerging areas of biomedical science.

Researchers at KMU have established capabilities in studying childhood malnutrition, gut microbiome alterations, intestinal barrier dysfunction, and host–microbe interactions. Through clinical networks, patient recruitment capacity, and multidisciplinary expertise, KMU is well positioned to contribute to international collaborative projects involving microbiome science, global health, precision nutrition, and implementation research.

KMU welcomes partnerships with international academic institutions, research organizations, and funding consortia to develop impactful research programmes addressing major health challenges in vulnerable populations.
