About

Batazu Advanced Therapeutics was founded in 2025, born from personal experience and clinical urgency. Its founder, Dr. Tomás Lamas, an intensive care physician and father of four, lost his 11-year-old son, Tomás “Batazu”, to aggressive Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2023. Through this journey—and through the growing BataZu Family community—the limitations of current AML treatments became painfully clear: chemotherapy and transplantation alone were not enough. Patients had no access to advanced cellular therapies capable of achieving deep, rapid, and durable remissions.

Transformed by this reality, the BataZu Family turned profound loss into a scientific and translational mission: to create a new generation of CAR-T therapies able to overcome the biological and operational barriers that have historically prevented CAR-T success in AML.

This mission led to the creation of Batazu Advanced Therapeutics S.A., a biotechnology company exclusively dedicated to developing Europe’s first dual-target CD33/CLL1 CAR-T therapy for AML, engineered for speed, potency, and real-world feasibility.

Mission

Our mission is to deliver the first clinically viable CAR-T therapy for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), addressing a critical unmet need for patients who currently face poor survival and limited treatment options.
We are developing and validating a dual-target CD33/CLL1 CAR-T therapy that prevents antigen escape—the leading cause of relapse in AML—and is produced using an innovative, ultra-fast manufacturing platform capable of delivering autologous CAR-T cells in 7 days.

Vision

Our vision is to bring more affordable, curative, and advanced cell therapies to AML patients—faster and at scale.

Develop our Dual CAR-T cell (CD33+CLL1) against AML

BAT is developing BAT-33/CLL1, a dual-target CAR T cell therapy for patients with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). By targeting both CD33 and CLL1, our approach aims to improve disease control in patients who relapse after standard treatments.
