Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable (IIBCE) is Uruguay’s leading public research institute in the life sciences under the Ministry of Education and Culture. Founded on a strong tradition of excellence in fundamental research, IIBCE's objectives are: the creation of new knowledge in biological sciences, the training of new generations of researchers, and outreach.

The Institute conducts cutting-edge research across neuroscience, genetics and molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, and related interdisciplinary fields, with a strong emphasis on neuroscience and brain health, biotechnology, and microbiology.

IBCE created over time state-of-the-art technological platforms and provides high-level services, training researchers at undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdoctoral levels, as well as technicians, while actively engaging in science-based policy advice and international cooperation.

With a long-standing commitment to open science, South–South, North–South collaboration, and capacity building, IIBCE plays a strategic role in national and regional research ecosystems.

IIBCE has extensive experience in international projects, researcher and students´ mobility, and knowledge transfer, contributing to gender equity in science, innovation, health, education, and sustainable development agendas aligned with European and global priorities.
