About

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is a modern research and clinical center that serves as the national reference institution for mental health in Czechia.

NIMH focuses on research into the neurobiological and psychosocial mechanisms underlying serious mental disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety, and stress-related conditions, and on developing and testing new diagnostic and treatment methods. The institute also provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and plays an important role in education as the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.

Beyond clinical and research activities, NIMH contributes expert analyses and data for the organization and reform of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic and engages in public education to improve mental health literacy.
