About

The Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) is an interdisciplinary research institute at the interface of life sciences and engineering, advancing health-focused research from disease mechanisms and modelling to advanced therapeutic medicinal products (ATMPs) and regenerative medicine.

iBB combines advanced spectroscopic and bioanalytical characterisation, microbiology and genomics, stem cell research, and 3D bioprinting and biomanufacturing, supported by integrated bioprocess engineering, to enable the development and translation of next-generation therapeutic and regenerative solutions.

Since 2018, iBB has contributed to over 70 national and 35 international R&D&I projects, demonstrating sustained scientific excellence in health-related research. iBB integrates the Portuguese nodes of ELIXIR, EATRIS, and Euro-BioImaging, supporting data-driven, imaging-intensive, and translational health research.
