Our Laboratory of Developmental Cardiology at the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences is a research group addressing fundamental and translational questions in heart development and cardiovascular disease. We integrate developmental biology, cardiovascular physiology, epitranscriptomics, and cardiometabolism. A major strength of our laboratory lies in our robust, well-validated physiological models of diverse cardiovascular diseases, enabling causal and clinically relevant mechanistic studies. We systematically investigate sex differences as critical determinants of cardiac development and disease vulnerability. Our team offers strong expertise in in vivo (adaptation to chronic hypoxia, ischemia/reperfusion injury, heart failure, echocardiography), ex vivo (isolated perfused rodent heart) physiological methods as well as in vitro approaches (primary cardiomyocytes isolation, secondary cell line culture, cell response to hypoxia and anoxia/reoxygenation, mitochondrial function measurement, epitranscriptomics). We seek strategic roles in Horizon Europe consortia, contributing innovative concepts, reliable leadership in experimental work packages, and high translational impact.
