The University of Ghana, the premier university in Ghana, was founded as the University College of the Gold Coast by Ordinance on August 11, 1948 for the purpose of providing and promoting university education, learning and research.
As a university poised to transform lives and societies through unparalleled scholarship, innovation and result-oriented discoveries, the University launched a new Strategic Plan (2024-2029). This new strategic plan is intended to draw on the achievements of the past, while acknowledging new challenges at national and global levels that demand nothing short of a transformation of the cultures of teaching and learning, research practices and institution building.
University of Ghana is administered through a collegiate system comprising the following colleges, as well as a central administration that includes a School of Graduate Studies and an Office of International Programmes:
