The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is the largest public research institution in Spain, covering all major scientific disciplines and strongly committed to European collaborative research. Within CSIC, the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM-SO) is a leading research institute in molecular biology, genomics, neurobiology, cancer research and systems biology.
CBM-SO hosts a certified BSL-3 facility integrated within its animal facilities, enabling in vivo studies in mouse models with high-risk respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2 and related coronaviruses. This infrastructure supports advanced preclinical research under strict biosafety and ethical standards.
The institute has extensive experience in Horizon Europe and previous Framework Programme projects, offering state-of-the-art infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise for translational biomedical research and innovation. CSIC and CBM-SO actively contribute to international consortia addressing major health challenges through excellence in fundamental and applied research.
