About
We are the Climate-Kidneys-Cognition Working Group, a collaborative initiative dedicated to exploring the interconnections between climate change, kidney health, and cognitive function.
We address an emerging syndemic-where climate stressors, such as heat and pollution, interact synergistically to amplify already increasing chronic disease burdens. Central to our research is the link between climate change and the bidirectional kidney-brain axis. Kidney dysfunction leads to the accumulation of uremic toxins that compromise neurocognitive health, while the brain’s central regulation is vital for maintaining renal homeostasis. Environmental stressors may disrupt this delicate equilibrium from both ends, creating a compounding cycle of damage that requires urgent, cross-disciplinary intervention.
Our interdisciplinary team brings together experts from various fields to address the emerging challenges posed by environmental changes on these critical aspects of human health. We strive to raise awareness, conduct impactful research, and develop innovative strategies that promote a holistic understanding of health in the context of climate resilience. Together, we aim to drive meaningful dialogue and forge partnerships to tackle these pressing global issues.
