About

The Girona Biomedical Research Institute Dr. Josep Trueta (IDIBGI) is a translational research centre based in Salt, near Girona, Catalonia. Established in 2005, IDIBGI focuses on enhancing health and healthcare through research that bridges basic science and clinical practice. It comprises over 400 professionals across 25 research groups, organised into five key scientific areas: Cardiovascular and Respiratory, Metabolism and Inflammation, Neurosciences, Oncohematology, and Mental Health.

IDIBGI operates as a public foundation within the CERCA network (Research Centres of Catalonia) and is governed by a board that includes the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) Girona, the Institute of Health Care (IAS), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) Girona, and the University of Girona.

The institute offers various scientific platforms to support research, including a certified Biobank for managing human biological samples and the Drosophila Fly Room Laboratory, which provides access to Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism for biomedical studies.
