About

Founded in 1613, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) is one of the oldest and most prestigious public universities in Latin America. Located in Córdoba —a vibrant, innovation-driven city in central Argentina— the university has long been a regional benchmark for academic excellence, social commitment, and scientific innovation. In 1918, its students led the University Reform Movement, a milestone that redefined the principles of autonomy, co-governance, and social responsibility throughout Latin American higher education.

With around 170,000 students, UNC offers 93 undergraduate and 234 postgraduate programmes across a wide range of disciplines, including Medical and Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Architecture and Design, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics, Social Sciences, and Humanities. Its 15 faculties host 145 research institutes, The university is also home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jesuit Block, symbolizing more than four centuries of scientific and cultural contributions.

UNC’s institutional assets make it one of the strongest players in Argentina’s research ecosystems that includes:

·        A dense network of 145 specialized laboratories and research centers in life sciences, nanotechnology, natural resources, and social innovation.

·        Three university hospitals and interdisciplinary health centers integrating clinical research, public health, and biomedical innovation.

·        The Laboratory of Hemoderivatives, a self-sustained biotechnological company producing plasma-derived medicines with WHO recognition for technology transfer.·        Advanced scientific infrastructure supported by high-end equipment such as ICP-MS, NMR, and satellite imaging facilities (Gulich  Institute– CONAE-UNC).

·        A strong tradition of university extension and social engagement connecting scientific production with territorial development and policy co-creation.

·        Active participation in international networks such as AUIP, AUGM, Columbus, and CLACSO, promoting cooperation with Europe and Latin America.

·        Institutional platforms supporting open science, digital transformation, and interdisciplinary project management.

UNC also supports the alignment of local scientific capacities with global challenges — including Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), Climate Action (SDG 13), Innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10).

Recognized in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025 as the only Argentine university among the top Latin American performers, particularly for its contribution to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), UNC reaffirms its institutional commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and equality as cross-cutting principles of its academic and research agenda.

UNC has developed strong expertise in managing international cooperation projects through its active participation in different international projects and networks. Over the past decade, UNC has been partner of 8 Erasmus+ CBHE projects (PROFIC, LISTO, CityLabs, ACAI-LA, NEON, BRAVIOO, USGAT and TechtraPlastiCE), 4 MSCA-RISE (CRIC, MIREL, INCASI, EOXPOSURE), 5 MSCA Staff Exchanges (ENRICH, EinsteinWaves, INCASi2, OCEANS and NET4FLOW) and one EMJM (TPTI).
