The A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences is a research institute that addresses global health challenges posed by population aging and lifestyle changes by focusing on research into cardiovascular and brain diseases. The A.I. Virtanen Institute for Molecular Sciences maintains and uses several components of the core university infrastructure, including the Kuopio Biomedical Imaging Unit, the National Virus Vector Laboratory, Stem cell, in vitro and in vivo Electrophysiology, and the Lab Animal Centre.
The institute participates in postgraduate education through the Doctoral Programme in Molecular Medicine and in the teaching of the Master’s Degree Programme in Biomedicine.
