GIVMED is a nonprofit organization founded in 2016 with the mission to ensure equitable access to medicine and health products, through coordinating their donations, by improving the legal framework, offering educational opportunities and raising awareness.
GIVMED leads the first and unique digital network in Europe that connects individuals, companies, non-profits and public bodies, enabling them to donate unused medicine and health products, for the benefit of socially vulnerable groups. To date, GIVMED has offered over 1.2 million products worth more than €15 million through synergies with 235 charitable organizations, 53 pharmaceutical companies, and thousands of citizens. The donations have benefited individuals who live below the poverty threshold, elders, children, refugees, migrants, Roma communities as well as people with disabilities or mental health conditions who are in a vulnerable situation.
Additionally, GIVMED:
- Offers educational opportunities regarding safe medicine use and vaccination.
- Collaborates with research and public bodies to carry out studies and improve the legal framework.
- Raises awareness regarding the issue of access to medicine enabling individuals to donate medicine and health products.
GIVMED has been supported by prominent organizations such as UNICEF and UN, the World Economic Forum, the EEA Grants, and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Also, it has coordinated and participates in Erasmus+ projects. Finally, it is a member of the EQUICARES project (Horizon) consortium.
Hence, GIVMED has the capacity to lead Erasmus+ projects, as well as to participate in Erasmus+, Horizon2020 and European Urban Initiative projects. The contribution and capacity of GIVMED as partner include:
- Health-related educational or advocacy activities
- Circular Economy and Upcycling
- Environmental protection
- Technology, especially relevant for upcycling and/or health
- Rendering GIVMED’s tech model for unused medicine redistribution, as a pilot/use case that can be transferred elsewhere.
