About

At IRCCS INRCA, we are dedicated to advancing health and science related to aging. As a leading institute in Italy, we focus on research, innovation, and the delivery of high-quality care for older adults. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates on projects that explore the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging, aiming to improve the quality of life for the elderly population. We welcome partnerships and exchanges that drive forward the science of gerontology and enhance elderly care.

More information on the institute:

IRCCS INRCA is the only public institution of scientific research and care (IRCCS) recognized in Italy for its specialization in geriatrics and gerontology. IRCCS INRCA has premises in Marche, Lombardy and Calabria regions, and works in close collaboration with the regional healthcare systems and social associations to protect the health and well-being of older people. It pursues excellence in: care services provided in its hospital facilities, scientific research on ageing integrating biomedical, technological and socioeconomic competencies. The Institute's main activities focus on two macro areas: Care Activities The nature and specificity of the welfare activities in the geriatric area are crucial in describing the role of the IRCCS INRCA, which manages the only hospital facilities in Italy with an exclusive geriatric vocation. The Institute wants to be, in its care facilities, a laboratory for experimentation of what characterises the care of the elderly patient. To this end, the Institute takes into account: a. the specific needs and risks faced by the elderly population (multimorbidity with consequent polypharmacy, to the typical condition of frailty and disability of the elderly, and to that typical of chronic and age-associated diseases); b. the methodology to be used in caring for this population (the needs and risks are identified through the multidimensional geriatric assessment and managed by relying on multidisciplinary and multi-professional integration mechanisms in the approach to the assistance and care of the person, to guarantee continuity of care and support to the social-health structures); c. the organisational models to be put in (the Institute accompanies the path through the construction and experimentation of innovative operational and organisational models in the various spheres, relying on the ability to build and test sustainable care models that can be scaled up with a specific focus on frailty/disability and "technocare". Research and Higher Education Activities IRCCS INRCA coordinates and participates in numerous projects, studies, clinical trials and experiments, mainly of a translational and interdisciplinary nature, with the aim of contributing to deepening the knowledge of the phenomenon of ageing from a point of view which is not only biological, but also demographic, socio-economic and political, in addition to traditional clinical-geriatric research. This path is in synergy with the participation in the activities of the IRCCS networks of reference (those of the Aging network, in particular) and is disseminated in the form of both scientific publications and consultancy to public and private bodies.
