About
We are aiming to have a proposal under HORIZON-JU-CBE-2026-IAFlag-02 of a Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) bio-based controlled-release fertiliser solution.
Our innovation, illustrated in the concept visual, consists of:
• Development of a UV-curable biodegradable bio-based polymer membrane
• Coating of urea granules to create a controlled-release fertiliser system
• Industrially scalable curing process (UV polymerisation)
• Tunable nutrient release profiles validated through lab and pilot trials
• Avoidance of persistent microplastics accumulation in soil
• Improved nitrogen use efficiency and reduced nutrient leaching
