About

Dr. Helmi Ernandes is an Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases at the Mohamed Kassab Institute of Orthopedics and at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis. He is a clinician–academic with a strong focus on the diagnosis and management of bone and joint infections, an area in which he has accumulated approximately six years of dedicated experience.

His clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of orthopedic infections, including periprosthetic joint infections (PJI), fracture-related infections (FRI), spondylodiscitis, and acute and chronic osteomyelitis. He is particularly involved in multidisciplinary care, working closely with orthopedic surgeons, microbiologists, and radiologists to optimize patient outcomes. Dr. Ernandes also has solid competence in diagnostic microbiology, with a special interest in optimizing microbiological sampling, culture techniques, and interpretation of results in complex musculoskeletal infections.

In parallel with his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ernandes is actively involved in academic research. He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and scientific communications in the field of infectious diseases, with a particular emphasis on bone and joint infections. His research interests include improving diagnostic strategies, understanding pathogen-specific outcomes, and contributing to evidence-based management of orthopedic infections.

Dr. Ernandes is strongly motivated to further develop research in bone and joint infections through national and international collaborations. He is committed to advancing clinical research, contributing to high-quality publications, and participating in multicenter studies aimed at improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal infections.
