Real-Time Stress Detection Using Wearables for Family and Relationship Wellbeing

Co-Founder/ Project Lead at Moment App

Foz do Arelho, Portugal

About

We are at an early formation stage, building a multidisciplinary team around a shared vision: enabling people to recognize rising stress signals and reset before escalation occurs, particularly in family, parenting, and couple contexts.

Our concept focuses on real-time stress and emotion detection using consumer wearables, combined with subtle, in-the-moment interventions that support emotional self-regulation. The emphasis is on wellbeing and prevention, not diagnosis, treatment, or clinical decision-making. We intentionally operate outside regulated healthcare, while aligning with public health goals related to mental wellbeing, stress reduction, and healthier family dynamics.

The core innovation lies in detecting early physiological and behavioural stress signals (e.g. patterns inferred from wearable data and user interaction signals) and delivering timely, lightweight interventions that help users pause, reset, and respond more constructively in emotionally charged moments.

We are seeking to join or contribute to a Horizon Europe consortium where this approach can be explored, validated, and ethically developed within a strong research and policy framework.

Our intended role in a consortium:

  • Contribute to the conceptual design of real-time, preventive wellbeing interventions.

  • Co-develop or pilot wearable-based stress detection and feedback mechanisms.

  • Support user-centred design, particularly for families, parents, and couples.

  • Collaborate on ethical, privacy-first approaches to sensitive wellbeing data.

  • Translate research outputs into practical, real-world tools suitable for everyday contexts.

Type of partners we are looking for:

  1. Technical partner / co-founder profile with expertise in biosignals, machine learning, AI, or wearable data processing (e.g. biomedical engineering or responsible AI backgrounds).

  2. Emotional health / wellbeing subject-matter experts, such as psychologists, behavioural scientists, or researchers in stress, family dynamics, or emotional regulation.

  3. Access to relevant user groups (families, parents, couples) for co-creation, qualitative research, and pilot testing at the appropriate stage.

We are open to collaborating with academic institutions, research organisations, SMEs, and public or community-oriented partners interested in preventive wellbeing, trustworthy AI, and human-centred digital innovation.
