Offering expertise in the analysis of HERV expression in transcriptomic data

Associate Professor at Università degli Studi di Cagliari

Cagliari, Italy

About

HERVs have known physiological roles, and are highly investigated for their possible contribution to human pathogenesis through their residual biological activity and pro-inflammatory effects. I apply a transcriptomic approach to analyse the specific expression of individual HERV loci in diseased conditions (i.e., cancers, autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, infectious diseases), to identify elements to be validated for their potential as biomarkers and, in the presence of a pathogenic role, innovative therapeutic agents. I am searching for partners interested in including this research topic in a project aimed at evaluating the contribution of HERV expression in post-infection long-term conditions, and the subsequent impact on cellular gene transcriptome.
