Research and Development Institution
AustriaAEE – Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) is one of Europe’s leading applied research institutes in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable thermal systems; combining high-level scientific expertise with practical implementation know-how, bridging the gap between research, technology development, and market deployment.
The institute’s Cities and Networks research group focuses on the planning, optimization, and transformation of District Heating and Cooling (DHC) systems, urban energy infrastructures, and smart thermal networks. Key areas include low-temperature and ultra-low temperature networks (4GDH/5GDHC), system decarbonization strategies, integration of renewable and waste heat sources, simulation-based planning, digitalization, and smart control solutions.
In addition to its DHC expertise, AEE INTEC covers a broad range of energy-related topics including thermal storage, solar thermal systems, industrial process heat, and systemic energy transition strategies. The institute is deeply engaged in national and international collaborative R&D projects, and contributes to policy development, capacity building, and knowledge transfer for sustainable energy solutions.
AEE INTEC offers advanced technical know-how, extensive project experience, and strong links to public authorities, industry, and energy utilities, particularly in the context of urban energy transition and integrated energy system planning.
