Investigation and Optimization of Metallurgical slags for high-temperature heat storage (HTES) applications
About
The project will systematically examine how slag composition, morphology and different processing routes influence key thermophysical and thermomechanical properties such as heat capacity, thermal conductivity, density, structural integrity, and resistance to repeated thermal cycling. Through controlled experiments, comparative analysis, and AI-based modelling, we aim to identify slag compositions that can reliably store and transfer heat. Identified compositions will be used to further optimize slag by mixing with materilas to obtain improved thermal properties. Optimal shapes and sizes identified through simulations will be used to create efficient HTES bed materials at melt stage (to minimize resources for preparation) and other laboratory testings.
