About

effiziente.st Energie- und Umweltconsulting e.U. (EUC) offers a fully instrumented pilot site capable of demonstrating, validating, and benchmarking novel heating and ventilation solutions under real-world conditions in historical building stock. The EUC living lab — a refurbished Gründerzeit apartment in Graz (ca. 1915) — operates as a near-zero-energy, IoT-coordinated demonstration flat that combines a split air-source heat pump, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR), solar thermal domestic hot water, and integrated PV. As such, EUC can provide consortium partners with a representative testbed for retrofitting interventions in protected and heritage-classified architecture, where conventional energy-efficiency measures are constrained by structural, thermal, and conservation requirements.

The pilot enables continuous, high-resolution monitoring of temperature, humidity, energy flows, indoor air quality, and system performance, supporting the assessment of comfort, efficiency, and durability of new technologies before wider market deployment. Beyond serving as a passive demonstration site, the pilot functions as an active research platform: it allows controlled experiments, comparative measurement campaigns, and the generation of validated datasets that quantify real energy savings and COP performance under the demanding boundary conditions typical of historical buildings. This makes EUC well positioned to bridge the gap between laboratory development and replicable, scalable solutions for the large and challenging segment of Europe's pre-1945 building stock.
