Funka Foundation
About
Funka Foundation is a not-for-profit independent research organisation founded in 2006 with a mission to empower persons with disabilities. Its main activity is to act as a knowledge center, providing support and advice on issues related to inclusion in general and accessibility in particular. Funka Foundation conducts research at the intersection of accessibility, disability rights, and equal participation in society—particularly within the domains of digital participation, employment, education, and social inclusion.
Currently, the Foundation is focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in shaping inclusive futures. This includes leading studies on bias in AI systems, with the aim of understanding and mitigating the risks of discrimination against persons with disabilities. In an on-going study, the organisation is collecting real-world examples of how AI can promote independence and inclusion, such as assistive technologies, accessible communication tools, and personalised support systems. Through this work, Funka Foundation seeks to ensure that the development and deployment of AI is inclusive by design and contributes positively to the lives of persons with disabilities.
