About

INBIOFAL (Institute of Pharmaceutical and Food Biotechnology) is a research unit jointly affiliated with CONICET and Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT), Argentina. EURAXESS PIC: 871238772

We work at the interface of applied microbiology, natural products and agri-food biotechnology, developing circular bio-based solutions that support pathogen control, food safety, and bioeconomy-driven innovation. Our R&D focuses on bioactive compounds and extracts obtained from agro-industrial side streams and microbial metabolites (including bacterial and fungal sources). We isolate and characterise active principles and evaluate bioactivities with relevance to antipathogenic performance (e.g., antimicrobial/antifungal and antibiofilm potential) as well as functional properties such as antioxidant and other bioactivities.

INBIOFAL also develops probiotic concepts (including caprine-oriented probiotics) and probiotic fermentations of plant-based matrices, and explores biocontrol-oriented approaches for agricultural contexts when aligned with project needs. A central driver is circular economy: transforming regional residues/by-products into higher-value bio-based ingredients and prototypes, supporting sustainable value chains.

We are interested in collaborating with EU partners (academia, SMEs and industry) within CBE JU / Horizon Europe Cluster 6, especially on projects combining biomass valorisation, bio-based antimicrobials/anti-biofilm strategies, validation in relevant settings, and pathways toward technology transfer.
