The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) is the largest agriculture and environmental science-oriented higher education organisation in Hungary, founded in 2021. Its legal predecessor was the Szent István University, with a decades-long existence. The University offers more than 50 diploma and degree courses and 52 MSc programs with over 13,278 students, and 14 Doctoral Schools with 756 PhD students. The highly qualified educational and research faculties established a comprehensive integration of education, research, and development in the new intellectual and innovation centre of agriculture and applied life sciences.

The Institute of Aquaculture and Environmental Safety focuses on two main areas: fish farming and environmental safety aspects, as well as performing knowledge transfer from basic technologies to the most up-to-date molecular methods. The Institute insists on training environment-conscious professionals with an ecological approach who can interpret fish farming and environmental safety as a complex system. By getting acquainted with nature protection, environment protection, and environmental safety, they will possess theoretical and practical knowledge adequate for the planning, organisation, and control of general and specific challenges of these sectors. Research and Innovation activities are focusing on both areas, aiming to develop innovative methods, new technologies, or field applications.
