Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V.

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is a non-profit research organisation specializing in applied laser and photonics technologies. For more than 35 years, LZH has been developing innovative laser-based solutions for industrial and societal applications. Its core competencies range from laser systems and optical technologies to process development, automation, and digitalization. LZH closely collaborates with industry, research institutions, and public stakeholders at national and European level, with a strong focus on technology transfer and application-oriented research.

Within LZH, the Food & Farming Group focuses on the development of laser and optical technologies for applications in the agrifood sector. The group addresses key challenges of sustainable agriculture, particularly in the area of chemical-free plant protection. Main research topics include laser-based weed control, selective insect control, and optical monitoring systems.

A central focus is the development of AI-based automated insect identification and monitoring systems combined with selective laser treatment of (regulated) plant pests. By integrating photonics, artificial intelligence, and agricultural expertise, the group aims to enable precise, resource-efficient, and environmentally friendly crop protection strategies.

As a non-profit research organisation, LZH offers its technological expertise, research infrastructure, and strong agriphotonics network to support collaborative research and innovation projects at European level.
