University of Nottingham

About

The University of Nottingham’s Food Systems Institute (FSI), established in 2023, is a transdisciplinary research institute focused on transforming food systems to be healthier, more equitable, and environmentally sustainable. It unites researchers across all five faculties at the University of Nottingham and collaborates closely with industry and policymakers to address challenges spanning food production, processing, transport, consumption, and waste. Framed around three pillars—sustainable and resilient food systems, equitable and inclusive access, and nutritious diets—the Institute accelerates real-world impact through strategic Centres of Excellence like the Centre for Food Policy and Foresight, the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Systems, and the Future Protein Hub. FSI’s mission is to pioneer solutions that ensure palatable, nutritious, and accessible food for all, while regenerating the planet and supporting a just transition amid climate pressures.
