Georgian Technical University (GTU) is one of the largest and oldest public universities in Georgia and the leading national institution in engineering, technology, and applied sciences. Founded in 1922, GTU has played a central role in shaping the country’s scientific and technological progress for over a century. Today, it serves as a major academic and research hub in the South Caucasus, bringing together more than 22,000 students and a wide network of experts, laboratories, and industry partners. GTU is structured across multiple faculties, covering fields such as computer science, informatics, engineering, architecture, urban planning, transportation, energy systems, environmental technologies, life sciences, and digital governance. The university is deeply engaged in interdisciplinary research with a strong emphasis on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, climate-tech, digital transformation of the public sector, data-driven environmental monitoring, and sustainable development.
The university actively participates in international cooperation programmes such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, COST, and other bilateral scientific initiatives. GTU maintains partnerships with more than 100 universities and research centres across Europe and Asia. It regularly coordinates or participates in EU-funded mobility schemes, capacity-building projects, and joint research consortia in areas such as digital governance, IoT-based environmental monitoring, renewable energy, marine ecosystem protection, and LegalTech innovation.
