CETENMA is Spanish RTO Center working at the interface between applied research, innovation and market uptake, supporting companies, public authorities and EU consortia in the development and deployment of solutions for a sustainable bioeconomy, healthy ecosystems and low-impact production systems.
Our work spans:
♻️ Circular Bioeconomy: CETENMA develops and validates circular bio-based solutions along the biomass and organic waste value chains, including waste-to-product processes, biorefinery concepts and urban circular bioeconomy models. We coordinate EU HE projects such as HOOP, supporting cities and regions in valorising biowaste and wastewater streams and accelerating circular business models.
🌾 Soil Health: CETENMA is actively engaged in the EU Soil Mission through projects such as iCOSHELLs and the GREENNOMED Living Lab, one of the first Soil Living Labs in Europe, where we co-create and test solutions for soil restoration, structure, biodiversity, nutrient cycling and low-input agriculture together with farmers, researchers, industry and authorities.
💧 Water Treatment & 🔁 Waste Valorisation: develops and validates integrated solutions for advanced water treatment and resource recovery from wastewater, reclaimed water, industrial effluents and organic residues, enabling nutrient removal and recovery, water reuse and the conversion of waste streams into bio-based products, secondary raw materials, energy carriers and circular fertilisers - coordinating HE projects as NPOWER, contributing to a more circular and low-pollution economy.
🔥 Renewable Gases: CETENMA has extensive experience in biogas, biomethane and renewable gas upgrading, integration and optimisation, supporting decarbonisation of energy systems and industrial processes.
📊 Environmental Performance: CETENMA applies environmental assessment tools (LCA, carbon footprint, sustainability indicators) to quantify impacts, guide eco-design and support decision-making across technologies and value chains.
🌍 Climate Change: CETENMA addresses climate change through integrated, place-based and nature-positive approaches that combine regenerative agriculture, circular bioeconomy and rural transition pathways with projects such as SPARTARIA. This is complemented by CETENMA’s role in setting up RURAL TRANSITION LABS through GIS-based territorial tools, enabling climate-informed decision-making, participatory governance and replication of climate-smart practices at local and regional level.
⚡ Decarbonisation: supports SMEs and territories in reducing emissions through renewable energy integration, circular processes and low-carbon technologies, combined with circular capacity building, mentoring and green acceleration services. We bridge technology validation with business development to accelerate market uptake of circular and bio-based solutions.
