Pili is pioneering the production of low-carbon alternatives to petrochemical colors by using renewable resources for more sustainable industrial applications. To achieve this goal, Pili has successfully manufactured ton-scale samples of biobased aromatic intermediates through a unique and proprietary process. The first two 100% biobased aromatic building blocks—anthranilic acid and para-aminobenzoic acid— are produced entirely through fermentation in Europe. Their integration into the chemical supply chain can be a major step towards the decarbonization of the industry.
