About

The BIOMA Institute for Biodiversity and the Environment is a multidisciplinary R&D centre of the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain). Our work focuses on the links between biodiversity, environmental quality, climate change and human health. BIOMA integrates five strategic areas: biodiversity and natural assets; environmental quality and health (One Health); sustainable agriculture and agroecology; sustainability and circular economy; and society and environmental culture.

We combine experimental and field research, long-term monitoring, laboratory analysis and digital tools (GIS, remote sensing, modelling, digital twins) to understand the drivers and impacts of global change and to design effective responses. BIOMA has experience in living labs and co-creation with municipalities, river basin authorities, hospitals, businesses and citizens, working on topics such as nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, circular and climate-resilient buildings, air and water quality, and climate adaptation.

Through national and European projects, we aim to provide robust scientific evidence, indicators and decision-support tools that help implement EU biodiversity, climate and restoration policies, while at the same time strengthening societal awareness and engagement.

Please, visit our website to discover our strategic areas, ongoing projects and research teams.
