ForestArc: Articulating Forest Rights in a Changing Arctic

Research Fellow, International Forest Policy (IFP), University of Helsinki at University of Helsinki

Helsinki, Finland

About

Our team comprises interdisciplinary expertise from Finland integrating Law, Forest policy, and Archeological-History analytics for projects aimed at achieving nature restoration (and climate) targets and is developing a data corpus to assess and inform the articulation of forest rights. We wish to join a BIODIV-05 (2027) consortium as the partner on social and ecological justice for nature restoration.

 We add value by

 ·       Implementation of historical and statistical analysis of archival data on the 'right to forest' and 'right of forest', engaging archeological evidence for restoring high nature value areas.

 ·       Developing tools and legal frameworks, construct current understandings of rights related to forests.

 ·       Designing a data corpus based on critical discourse analysis (discourse), institutional policy analysis (structure), advocacy coalition framework (belief), with relevant actors on integrating ESG metrics into just futures for forests.

 What we are seeking

 ·       A coordinator with expertise in environmental science and governance, stakeholder and governance partners to ensure results inform national, EU and international initiatives for justice in nature-restoration.

 Our role

 ·       Our team would lead a working group on social and ecological justice with respect to forest rights, collaborating closely with scientific, ESG partners, and local communities while remaining a non-coordinating partner.

Relevance to Horizon Europe - Cluster 6: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment

 ·       Focus on resilient, inclusive, healthy, and free rural and urban communities, monitoring climate and human-induced pressures on terrestrial ecosystems, integrated local knowledge with decision support for nature restoration.
