Bioproducts within livestock production sector: a circularity approach
Project Manager at Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology
Barcelona, Spain
About
Our team brings advanced expertise in sustainable livestock production, valorization of alternative protein sources, and circular bioeconomy strategies. We specialize in extraction and functionalization of proteins and bioactive compounds from agri-food resources using ultrasound, high-pressure technologies, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation, supercritical fluid extraction, ultrafiltration, and pilot-scale processing. These capabilities enable the creation of novel feed ingredients and functional products.
Our integrated approach links methane-derived single-cell protein (SCP) production to calf and dairy nutrition, converting on-farm biogas into protein-rich feed while mitigating emissions. Effluents are valorized via dark fermentation into hydrogen and volatile fatty acids, supporting circular resource use.
With extensive livestock management experience, precision feeding and welfare monitoring, and experimental facilities for ruminants, monogastrics, and insects, we can assess environmental, nutritional, and welfare outcomes. Life-cycle assessment (LCA) and ecosystem service evaluations ensure sustainable, diversified, and circular livestock systems. These capabilities position us to deliver high-impact, innovative solutions aligned with Horizon Europe objectives.
