LandLink – Catalysing Access to Farmland for Farmers

LandLink is a forward-looking initiative addressing a critical bottleneck in sustainable agriculture: land access for the next generation of farmers. In many rural and peri-urban areas, especially in land-constrained contexts like Malta, high prices and speculative dynamics leave much farmland idle while locking out young agricultural entrepreneurs.

LandLink proposes a scalable, data-driven solution: a digital platform that maps underused land, matches landowners with aspiring farmers, and supports transparent, climate-resilient stewardship agreements. It combines GIS mapping, AI-driven matchmaking, legal tools, and training in sustainable farming practices to create a fair, efficient land-use system aligned with EU green and rural development goals.

Backed by social innovation expertise and rural networks, the project also supports pilot activations, community co-creation labs, and policy dialogue, aiming to replicate the model in other European regions facing land abandonment and generational turnover in farming. LandLink contributes directly to the EU’s priorities on soil health, rural revitalisation, climate adaptation, and food system resilience.
