About
We are a research group specializing in bio-based materials, bio(nano)composites, functional coatings, hydrogels/aerogels, bioactive packaging and waste valorisation. We aim to join consortia preparing proposals under HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-07/08/09/11, contributing expertise in material development, green processing, characterisation, standardisation, and sustainability. Our work targets circular bioeconomy value chains, low-energy bioprocesses, and advanced functional materials for packaging, agriculture, wood products, and environmental applications.
Expertise Offered:
-
Bio(nano)composite hydrogels & aerogels for water retention, controlled release and environmental remediation
-
Bio-based coatings and adhesives (superhydrophobic, antimicrobial) for wood, paper, textiles and packaging
-
Bioactive materials for extended food shelf life (cellulosic modification, enzymatic/irradiation pretreatment)
-
Sustainable composite systems & biodegradable packaging materials
-
Lignocellulosic waste valorisation into high-value biopolymers and composites
-
Degradation, protection, and modification of wood/wood-based products
-
Advanced characterisation techniques: FT-IR, XRD, NIR, 2D-COS, chemometrics, migration testing, rheology, sorption/permeability analysis
-
Low-energy, water-efficient processing routes for bio-based composites, hydrogels and coatings
What We Seek:
· Coordinators and partners preparing proposals for CIRCBIO-07, CIRCBIO-08, CIRCBIO-09 and CIRCBIO-11
· Industrial partners (packaging, wood, composites, agriculture, biotech, materials processing)
· SMEs, RTOs and technology developers in bio-based value chains
· Demonstration partners for coatings, composites, adhesives, packaging and agricultural materials
Contribution to CIRCBIO Calls:
CIRCBIO-07: bio(nano)composite hydrogels, functional coatings, bioactive packaging, bio-adhesives and waste-derived biopolymers; development of sustainable formulations, nanostructured materials, and green processing
CIRCBIO-08: advanced characterisation (FT-IR, XRD, NIR, chemometrics, 2D-COS, machine learning), degradation, migration/safety testing, and performance benchmarking and pre-normative datasets for bio-based coatings, adhesives and composites
CIRCBIO-09: sustainable bioactive packaging, hydrogels/aerogels for agriculture, seed-coating biocomposites, and waste valorization
CIRCBIO-11: bio(nano)composite coatings for marine applications, hydrogels from marine polysaccharides, biomimetic surface functionalisation inspired by marine organisms, valorisation of marine biomass residues into functional materials, green processing of marine-based composites.
