HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-ZEROPOLLUTION-03 - AQUA RURAL

Head of Product&BusDev@MAC | Principal@Paolo Guzzini - Engineering & Consulting at GEOCART

About

AQUA Rural aims to develop and validate integrated solutions for Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) in European rural and agricultural areas, supporting water resilience, groundwater protection and sustainable land management.

The project will identify optimal MAR sites at basin and catchment scale through geospatial suitability analysis, validated across representative European case-study regions. It will also develop a user-friendly MRV system to monitor groundwater quantity and quality, as well as related aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Geocart S.p.A. will contribute with its expertise in spatial analysis, EO/Copernicus data, Web GIS and geospatial multi-temporal monitoring, including the assessment of runoff, soil erosion, landscape resilience and nature-based solution impacts.

The consortium is seeking partners able to extend and customise MAR techniques in different agricultural contexts, assess environmental and sustainability impacts, develop cost-benefit analyses and business models for farmers and land managers, and validate the approach through case studies in different pedoclimatic zones.

We are looking for additional partners, including:

  • Coordinator: university or research centre with expertise in hydrology, hydrogeology or water management.

  • Mandatory end-user: basin authority, regional agricultural body, water authority or similar organisation able to support multi-actor validation.

  • Agronomic partner: agricultural research centre or agronomy expert with knowledge of MAR practices, business models and cost-benefit analysis for farmers and land managers.

  • Case study partners: organisations able to provide pilot sites in Mediterranean drought-prone areas, such as Spain, Southern Italy or Greece, and in Continental / Atlantic areas, such as France, Germany or Poland.

We are particularly interested in partners able to contribute to applied validation, user requirements, pilot implementation and impact assessment in different pedoclimatic contexts.
