Prof. Alberto Fiore
Professor of Food Chemistry and Technology, Abertay University, UK
Prof. Alberto Fiore is a leading academic in food chemistry and technology, with over two decades of experience across academia and industry. He currently heads the Food Chemistry and Technology group at Abertay University, focusing on sustainable food systems, food safety, and nutritional innovation. His research addresses key areas in circular bioeconomy, food security, and agri-tech, particularly through valorisation of food by-products, mitigation of contaminants, and functional food development.
Prof. Fiore has coordinated and contributed to several major UKRI, Innovate UK, and EU-funded projects, including SHEALTHY (Horizon 2020), BioSWELL, and a BBSRC project on insect-based nutrition for schoolchildren in Zimbabwe. He maintains strong links with industry and low- and middle-income countries, promoting applied innovation and knowledge exchange in food production and processing. His work bridges scientific research and technological application, supporting resilient, nutritious, and sustainable food value chains.
