The Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM) renamed Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State is a higher education institution in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. The university was established in 1988, following the recommendations of a 1987 federal government White Paper on Higher Education curriculum and development in Nigeria. The vice-chancellor is Professor Isaac Itodo , and the chancellor is the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari CFR. On 14 July 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari approved a bill renaming it the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in honour of the late Nigerian politician Joseph Tarka.

Engr. Dr. John Audu, born on December 14, 1972, is a distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), Nigeria. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Audu has established himself as a leading researcher specializing in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, IoT, and Machine Learning to revolutionize agricultural practices. His expertise spans crop processing, storage solutions, and the automation of agricultural systems, all aimed at enhancing sustainability and efficiency in farming.

Dr. Audu's academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering from the University of Ibadan, where his thesis focused on developing and optimizing an integrated semi-automated grading machine for cowpea seeds. His educational foundation also comprises a M.Phil in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, a M.Eng in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, and a B.Eng in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Maiduguri, where he graduated with Second Class Upper Division.

Throughout his career, Dr. Audu has made significant contributions to agricultural technology. His innovative developments include IoT-enabled smart grain silos for real-time monitoring, robotic yam sorting machines, and AI-powered quality detection devices for various crops. These technologies are designed to reduce post-harvest losses, improve product quality, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Dr. Audu has secured several competitive grants, including multiple Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF) grants, supporting research initiatives such as the development of an IOT-enabled and solar-powered center-pivot irrigation system. These projects highlight his commitment to empowering women and youth in agriculture and addressing critical challenges in the Nigerian agricultural landscape.

With a strong publication record, Dr. Audu has contributed significantly to academic literature with numerous peer-reviewed articles and conference presentations. His research explores topics such as crop automation, machine vision, bio-sensing technologies, and the application of AI in agriculture. Dr. Audu's contributions have been recognized through awards, including the Bonny Local Government NYSC Meritorious Award.
