Carbon sequestration in soil

Meret Aeppli

Assistant Professor at EPFL

Sion, Switzerland

About

Soil organic carbon plays a key role for agriculture as it stores nutrients, increases water holding capacity and contributes to soil structure. This pool is futher an important component of the global carbon cycle that may mitigate or exacerbate climate change. Soil organic carbon is primarily lost to the atmosphere due to microbial mineralization of organic carbon. I aim to study the underlying mechanisms governing this process across different soil and soil management types.
