Promoting the Ecological Transition: Climate Change, Water, Energy
About
Finnova is a European foundation based in Brussels specialised in dissemination, exploitation, communication and also promoting and increasing impact of Horizon Europe results and outputs. We organise high impact events such as Accelerathons, Hackathons, the Startup Europe Awards with the European Commission, etc. We are experienced in Horizon Europe projects.
Sustainability, water and waste management, renewable energy, and the fight against climate change are key priorities for FINNOVA, reflected in initiatives like Next Water Generation, the foundation’s platform for sharing information on water management and protection, and in its participation in several European projects focused on these themes.
-
LIFE ECOdigestion 2.0, with a budget of €970,000 funded by the LIFE programme, focuses on generating biogas from the mixture of putrescible organic waste. Led by Global Omnium (Spain) in collaboration with Finnovaregio Foundation (Belgium) and Águas do Centro Litoral (Portugal), the project transforms sewage sludge into green energy, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and making use of sludge produced during wastewater treatment processes, with a positive environmental impact.
-
Horizon ONE-BLUE focuses on researching emerging pollutants and the impacts of climate change on marine biodiversity and biota. Funded by the Horizon Europe programme with a budget of over €6.2 million, the project will conduct case studies in the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic, and Mediterranean Sea. In the Mediterranean, samples will be collected along the Spanish coast, and in the Tyrrhenian, Adriatic, Ionian, and Aegean Seas. The project also has the potential to expand to other countries and through additional European programmes.

Horizon RES4CITY advocates for placing educational systems at the heart of the ecological transition. Funded by the Horizon programme with a budget of €2.5 million, RES4CITY focuses on supporting training for the development of sustainable renewable energy in urban environments. As part of this project, the RES4CITY STARTUP EUROPE ACCELERATHON has been launched—an open competition inviting entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and others to propose innovative solutions to challenges related to hydrogen, land management, and energy conservation.
-
Finally, LIFE COSTAdapta is dedicated to adapting the coast of Gran Canaria to rising sea levels through the creation of a progressive and innovative system of reefs and tidal pools (Tidal-pool reef). Inspired by the traditional technique of building tidal pools common in the Canary Islands and Macaronesia, this project is funded by the LIFE programme with a budget of over €3.4 million.
