About

ISQ is an organisation that provides scientific-technological support by promoting continuous improvement, innovation and the safety of people and property in industry and services. ISQ is the largest Technological Interface Centre in Portugal but its international presence and vocation guarantees its sustainability and the development of its employees. For over 50 years ISQ has been developing integrated solutions for engineering, inspection, testing and training services, acting as an innovation accelerator, delivering high added value solutions to new businesses and concepts. ISQ has more than 16 accredited laboratories (DIN EN ISO 17025:2005) and it provides specialised technical assistance services, through consultancy, for implementation of individual or integrated management systems certification/accreditation.

ISQ solutions are provided across a wide range of sectors, including Public Administration, Aeronautics and Aerospace, Agriculture and Agroindustry, Research Infrastructures, Trade and Services, Construction, Energy, Smart Cities and Mobility, Automotive Industry, and Process Industry. ISQ also offers solutions in the Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Pharmaceutics, and other industries.

ISQ is an industrially oriented Engineering Organisation, that has been placing considerable efforts in Additive Manufacturing (AM). Special emphasis has been given to the characterisation of new AM materials and development of new solutions in the wire-arc, laser metal deposition, and powder bed fusion technologies. Its Additive Manufacturing Laboratory is fully equiped with AM processes, developing various activities in the field. ISQ is an Authorised Nominated Body for Metal Additive Manufacturing by the certification and qualification system of European Welding Federation and an Approved Training Body for Metal AM and a member of CEN/TC 438 and ISO/TC 261 standard technical committees for AM.

Data technologies, data ecosystems and cross-linking

Data ecosystems for the realisation of circular value creation exploiting the full potential of digitalisation – e.g., harnessing existing, purpose-built platform solutions.(AI based) recognition systems (e.g. image recognition) to evaluate materials, components and products and determine the best use paths(AI based) process and system control technologiesSimulation models and predictive analytics to assess the scalability of circular processes across industries

Other enabling technologies

Manufacturing and machine learning, e.g., to increase the flexibility of industrial processes, modular approaches, reduce use of materials, quality assurance and certification of products)AI-driven diagnostic systems, e.g., for assessing the viability of reused, remanufactured, and recycled componentsIndustry 4.0 technologies (IoT, big data analytics) for monitoring and managing circular value chains(Advanced/smart) Sensors, e.g., enabling materials, components and product flows measurement(Advanced) Materials and additive manufacturingLife cycle assessment / Product life cycle management – e.g., Digital Twin / Digital Product Passport
