Repair & overhaul by using laser based Directed Energy Deposition (DED) with powder and/or wire
Group Manager Additive Manufacturing & Repair LMD at Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT
Aachen, Germany
About
The department LMD of Fraunhofer Institute for Lasertechnology is focusing on the process development, system engineering and digitization of the laser based Directed Energy Deposition process with either powder or wire material. We are open to innovative cooperation projects in which the DED technology can be applied and utilized for new repair and/or coating applications.
Among the conventional DED-L technology, Fraunhofer is also using the high-speed variant, HS-DED, which allows the processability of difficult to weld materials with a lower heat input. This potentially enables possibilities to repair components which cannot be repaired by conventional means.
