About
We offer expertise in all relevant non-destructive testing methods for the plastics industry. From defect detection and material characterization to complete process monitoring, there are applications for new quality assurance systems. The focus is on laboratory applications as well as on the inline implementation of measurement technology. Methods used and developed include:
Terahertz time domain spectroscopy, Radar technology, Active and passive thermography, (air-coupled) ultrasonic testing, Shearography, Optical coherence tomography, Computed tomography (CT).
The research group utilizes non-destructive testing methods to characterize raw materials and technical components throughout all stages of production. This can be done on a laboratory scale or inline in a production environment. Applications range from monitoring and characterization of foams, fiber reinforced materials and molten plastics in an extruder to adhesives.
The research group is not only optimizing the measurement setups but also developing new and sophisticated evaluation algorithms for the measured signals and images, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
