My organisation

Fraunhofer ISI advises national and international companies, public authorities and research institutions on strategic issues relating to battery markets, research, production and use. In particular, it has a high level of expertise in the techno-economic assessment of new technologies, the development of scenarios and the derivation of strategic implications for politics, business and society. For example, Fraunhofer ISI has been carrying out a roadmapping and monitoring process in the field of battery research and industry for the German BMBF since 2009. In this context, it informs the expert public about the technical-economic development of international battery technology and markets and conducts status seminars with and for German battery research. Together with the VDMA and the PEM of RWTH Aachen University, Fraunhofer ISI has been conducting a battery production equipment roadmapping every two years since 2014, which presents and evaluates the latest cell production processes and locates them in terms of their industrial availability. Since 2018, Fraunhofer ISI has been conducting a preparatory study for the European Commission within the framework of the Ecodesign Directive, which examines the economic, ecological and resource-relevant effects of the increasing use of lithium-ion battery storage in Europe and derives regulatory options for action. Through the aforementioned and other completed and ongoing project work in the field of battery storage technologies, Fraunhofer ISI is very well networked in the battery research scene as well as in the field of battery producers and users.
