Energy Storage Safeguard: Energy Storage Safety Protection System with Multi-failure Active Protection for High-value and High-security Scenarios
Director, Advanced Electronic Components & Systems (AECS) Division at Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute
China (Hong Kong)
About
Developed by ASTRI, the Energy Storage Safeguard is designed for scenarios with exceptionally high requirements for safety and power-supply reliability, covering high-value applications such as AI data centres, low-carbon buildings and ultra-fast charging stations.
Centred on ultra-early thermal runaway risk detection and active protection, the system integrates gas-thermal hybrid sensing, precision pressure monitoring and intelligent thermal management technologies to build a multi-layered safety protection architecture from battery cells to the overall system.
Even in the event of a localised fault, the system can ensure continuous and stable power supply through precise fault isolation, voltage-stabilised seamless switching and operating-mode reconfiguration, helping prevent business interruption and significant operational losses. The Energy Storage Safeguard has undergone long-term operation in multiple demonstration projects, with its safety and stability fully validated. It is ready for large-scale promotion and commercial deployment. By reducing operational risks and enhancing critical infrastructure protection, the system creates sustainable development opportunities and competitive advantages for investors and industry partners in AI infrastructure, smart buildings, ultra-fast charging networks and the low-carbon economy. The solution has been validated through long term deployment across multiple demonstration projects, where its safety performance, stability, and practical value have been fully proven. It is now ready for scalable replication and commercial rollout.
By reducing operational risk and enhancing protection for critical infrastructure, Energy Storage Safeguard addresses the priorities of investors, asset owners, developers, operators, and system integrators—delivering safety, reliability, and sustained returns while unlocking opportunities in AI infrastructure, smart buildings, ultra fast charging networks, and the low carbon economy.
