Formation Capital — Sovereign AI Compute Infrastructure, South Africa

Founder & CEO at GENESIS AI Sovereign Compute Infrastructure

South Africa

About

GENESIS is building South Africa's sovereign AI compute infrastructure platform — dedicated, jurisdiction-governed data centre capacity for regulated institutions that require genuine control over their AI workloads, not merely the appearance of it.

Every major operator serving this market today is foreign-controlled at the platform level. Data residency and governance sovereignty are different things: a foreign-owned data centre physically located in South Africa still satisfies residency, but under the US CLOUD Act's "possession, custody, or control" test, it remains reachable by foreign law regardless of where its servers sit. GENESIS is 100% Black South African-owned at inception, B-BBEE Level 1 — the actual mechanism of jurisdictional control a foreign-owned platform cannot structurally replicate.

Three nodes: Node 1 at Lanseria (Gauteng), Node 3 at Coega Special Economic Zone (Eastern Cape), and Node 2 in Abu Dhabi (UAE) — 1,100MW combined at full build.

Active institutional relationships already underway with South Africa's DTIC and InvestSA, the DBSA, the IDC, and Coega SEZ; Eskom has indicated a dedicated account executive for Node 1's grid connection.

Formation capital of $18–22M is currently being raised, targeting close in Q3 2026, ahead of a phased infrastructure build toward $12.7–15.8B at full platform scale.

Seeking formation-stage capital partners and DFI co-lenders with a genuine mandate for sovereign infrastructure in emerging and Gulf-adjacent markets.
