The University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies (UCIPS) is Serbia’s only accredited, standalone university primarily dedicated to criminalistics and policing. Founded by the Serbian government in 2006, it evolved from the Advanced School of Internal Affairs (1972) and the Police Academy (1993). With a tradition starting in 1921, UCIPS boasts over 100 years of experience in police education. As of 2025, the university will have maintained a continuous presence in this field for 104 years. The university focuses on training professionals in criminalistics, cybersecurity, forensic sciences, and related security domains in accordance with EU standards.
UCIPS comprises three main faculties:
• Faculty of Criminal Investigation
• Faculty of Forensic Sciences and Engineering
• Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology
It offers a full range of accredited programs.
• Basic vocational (undergraduate) studies
• Basic academic studies (four-year degrees)
• Master's, specialist, and doctoral programs
The focus is strongly on practical training, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and other security institutions.
The institution is accredited to conduct scientific research and publishes the NBP Journal of Criminalistics and Law and the Journal of Computer and Forensic Sciences. It also organizes national and international conferences.
In recent years, significant investments have been made in modern infrastructure, including smart classrooms, laboratories, and a renovated student campus featuring a café, a canteen, a gym, a shooting range, and a library. The campus provides uniforms, textbooks, food, and housing free of charge for students funded by the budget.
